And iOS 7 is now running on 200m devices.

Earlier today, figures from Localytics showed that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c account for almost one per cent of global iPhones and 1.4 per cent in the US.

Apple has now released official figures and boasts a record-breaking nine million sales of its new iPhones in just three days.

Comparatively, the iPhone 5 experienced sales of five million on its debut weekend and the iPhone 4S hit four million.

Meanwhile, iOS 7 is now up and running on more than 200 million devices. The operating system comes with music streaming service iTunes Radio, which has already secured more than 11 million unique listeners.

Tim Cook, CEO, Apple, said: "This is our best iPhone launch yet?more than nine million new iPhones sold?a new record for first weekend sales.

"The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."
